Brilliant Book Day!

Pupils and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters and looked fantastic! The day began with a fabulous whole school assembly where children and parents were treated to our Year 6 library monitors acting out the story of the Gruffalo! The children loved joining in with the story and Gruffalo song!

Across the school there were plenty of opportunities to read a range of books and lots of time to spend in our wonderful new Gruffalo themed library! Children got comfy in their classrooms with blankets and cushions and enjoyed some uninterrupted, quality reading time with their friends. Across the school children were busy reviewing books, stepping into the shoes of authors and illustrators and retelling their favourite stories.

After recently raising a whopping £582 through our whole school Usborne sponsored reading competition, our hoard of books arrived just in time for World Book Day! The competition winners delivered their brand new books to their classes ready for everyone to enjoy.

All the adults in school were invited to bring in their favourite book and children chose what story they would like to listen to and where in school- nowhere was off limits!

‘Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face’ read by Mrs Wilcockson went down particularly well!

The day came to an end by children of all ages coming together and sharing stories in the hall.

Miss Aldiss, Year 3 Teacher said, ‘It was so lovely to see the children reading to each other and being so enthralled by the stories. The children loved having the freedom to read with children from other year groups and show off their fabulous costumes!  Everyone has made such an effort to make it a day to remember. The buzz of World Book Day will definitely be around school for a while!”
