Co-op competition

The pupils were extremely enthusiastic when taking part, at Easter time, in the Co-op’s competition to decorate Easter Egg pictures.  Six lucky winners from Rec – Y6 received generous Co-op goody bags, packed full of Easter chocolates for their imaginative and colourful drawings.  If you visited the shop over the Easter holidays you would have seen how beautifully they decorated the inside of the store as decorative bunting, making a cheery Easter atmosphere.

More recently, on Tuesday 1st May 2018, staff from the Co-op helped to launch the pupils’ learning about the work of Fairtrade with an educational assembly.  By showing the journey that a simple Fairtrade banana makes from the trees of the Coobana Plantation in Panama to our local Co-op store, with the help of Fairtrade, enabled the pupils to begin to understand the support these small farming organisations receive and the protection of their rights as traders.  The pupils will be continuing to learn about other products sold through Fairtrade over the coming weeks, such as coffee, tea and of course, their favourite, chocolate!  Thank you to Jane and James from the Co-op for beginning this journey into ethical produce.  We expect many of our pupils will be looking out for the Fairtrade symbol more often now when they do the weekly shop and look forward to many other future joint ventures.
