To Infinity and Beyond – National Space Centre Visit

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore and find out about space including what it is like to be an astronaut, how stars are formed and the different planets in the solar system.

The children were engaged from the minute they arrived, exploring the different exhibits. They learnt about Tim Peake’s mission into space, the universe and the planets. Visiting the iconic ‘Rocket Tower’ was a memorable experience where the children saw the Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets, as well as real Moon rock. Becoming trainee astronauts on a lunar based in the year 2025, was an exciting part of the visit to the Tranquillity Base.

The highlight of the day however, was visiting the fantastic full-dome 360 degree planetarium. The Astronaut show began with a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut. They were taken on a journey through inner and outer space. The show explored the perils that lurk in space and what it takes to become an astronaut.

‘The trip was a fantastic hook into our space topic and the children have continued their enjoyment back in the classroom, where we have continued to find out about space and life beyond planet earth.’ Miss Worrall Class Teacher.
