Diwali Day

The children spent the day learning all about Diwali and how and why Hindus celebrate the festival of light. Sunita from ‘The Indian Experience’ led the session which included the chance to dress up in real traditional Indian clothing and learn all the moves of Bollywood dancers! No strangers to performing regularly, Nandini Mamillapalle and Samutha Puppala treated the whole school to a breath-taking performance of their traditional Indian dance.

“It was wonderful for the girls to share their amazing talent with the whole school, the children loved every minute!” said Miss Aldiss, Year 3 Teacher.

The fun continued into the afternoon with the children using stencils and chalks to create beautiful Rangoli patterns, traditionally painted outside houses during Diwali. The children were fascinated to learn all about the many Gods of the Hindu religion and the whole school loved hearing the story of Rama and Sita.

Finally, the children had the chance to explore India and were interested to compare the similarities and differences in lifestyles of Indian children and themselves. A busy but brilliant day had by all at Bourne Elsea Park Academy!
