The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Pied Piper of HamelinYear 2 began their working week with the pleasure of taking part in Partake Theatre’s ‘Pied Piper of Hamelin’. All 22 children were immediately designated parts (rats, posh ladies, bakers, rat catchers, the Mayor) and were totally engaged in acting out the famous fairy tale. Georgie made a very bossy mayor, while Carmen and Harrison became fearsome rat catchers. The group of eight rats, wearing black ears on their headbands, became totally believable while they scampered around the town and then followed the Piper down to the river. Successful sound effects and background music helped the children to engage fully in the drama.

This opportunity has stimulated the children to work on some super ‘retell’ and ‘what happened next?’ pieces of writing. Mrs Olverson has seen our Year 2’s in a whole new light!
