Bourne Vintage Cars

The trip started with a visit to Mr and Mrs Moody’s vintage cars. There, we were lucky enough to see a range of cars spanning over 90 years. We were truly wowed by the beautiful cars and it was fascinating seeing how they had changed over time. The children made some brilliant observations and comparisons between the cars as well as asking lots of questions about them. Once we had explored every car and listened to all of the horns, we walked across town to Bourne Heritage centre, stopping briefly to admire the memorial to Raymond Mays in the park. Once inside the Heritage centre the children were in for a real treat as they got to explore Bourne’s history by looking at photos and listening to stories from our fantastic tour guide Brenda Jones. Everyone loved finding out about Raymond Mays in more detail, seeing photos of him as a child and many of him racing different cars. We were very impressed by all of his trophies that showed off his spectacular career. It was also really lovely to explore the floor in the Heritage centre that shared photos and memorabilia from Bourne’s historical railway too. Everyone walked away from the trip with lots of new information about Bourne and how transport has changed so much over time. The children were so eager to get back to school and write all the amazing facts they had found out. It was a wonderful trip linking our local community and historical learning.
